Welcome to our first edition of Grubspotting. This will be a new “series” where we spotlight various food and dishes in the Philadelphia area. It could be something we ate or found on another foodie’s profile that we thought looked amazing (with their permission of course). If you want to submit a dish for Grubspotting, get in touch. Be sure to send us a link to where we can find the blog post or social media update.
National Waffle Day is on August 24th in the U.S.A, but March 25th marks International Waffle Day. The day the World celebrates those doughy dimpled darlings. Since Belgian waffles are my favorite kind of waffle, you don’t have to twist my arm to celebrate the day.
Grand Lux Cafe at the Cherry Hill Mall invited to us to try their Chicken & Waffles dish recently and we jumped at the chance to celebrate International Waffle Day early. Hear me out.
I admit, I am a late bloomer to chicken and waffles. I am crazy about sweet and savory together, though, and this speaks to me on that level. At Grand Lux, this is your standard Belgian waffle. A very good sweet, fluffy Belgian waffle. It’s a thicker waffle to be sure, but not dense like a Liege waffle.
What I liked the most about this dish is the chicken actually. They piled on SEVEN plump, juicy, and perfectly fried chicken tenders. Chicken and waffle purists may be offended by the use of tenders, but they hit the right note for me. They were perfectly scrumptious and tender, which to me makes a better chicken and waffles dish. Sometimes chicken can be over-fried resulting in it being too crispy (if you can imagine), and it will scrape/wreak havoc on the sides and inside of my mouth. I hate that feeling! 🙂
To top off this dish, they included pecans, powdered sugar, and maple-butter sauce. The sauce is oh-so-delightful on the chicken. I promise!
While we were there we also enjoyed the DeLux Breakfast Sandwich and Pastrami Hash & Eggs.
Grand Lux Cafe is serving a serious brunch. So if brunch or chicken and waffles is your thing, check it out for International Waffle Day tomorrow either at the Cherry Hill Mall or King of Prussia Mall locations.

I agree, Lisa! We really enjoyed it. Looking forward to your post!
Hi, thanks. Is chicken of the Chicken & Waffles the same kentucky chicken that are sold in restaurants?
No clue?
