On Monday evening, I attended an Autumn Menu Tasting at Miles Table, a charming neighborhood BYOB restaurant located at 1620 South Street.
The tasting was hosted by Chef Cherryl (AKA “Phillyfoodgal”) of #TravelWithChefCherryl in collaboration with Breslow Partners. It was attended by fellow foodies Shelby and Nadine of 2StarvingSistas, Lexie of Hungry Chopsticks, and Jason AKA 215FoodGuy.
We sampled five different appetizers and three different entrees. Menu pictured below.
The first appetizer we tried was the Butternut Squash Soup with Mascarpone and Pepitas. We all concurred that this soup was wonderful; perfectly smooth, creamy and velvety. The kind of warm and comforting soup you eat every last drop, lick the bowl, and still want more! Pure Autumn in a bowl.

The second appetizer we tried was the Crawfish Macaroni and Cheese. They did not skimp on the crawfish! I didn’t take a picture, but the 2starvingsistas did!
The next app up to taste was the Crispy Cauliflower with Sambal chili sauce, peppers & onions, and sesame seeds. Cauliflower is definitely having its day in the spotlight as a hot ingredient on restaurant menus. The popular trend is to coat the florets in a light batter, then deep frying them for a light crispy/crunchy effect. Some places are serving them Buffalo style, as a vegan alternative to wings, or with other peppery spices to kick up flavor. I loved this version of cauliflower as a starter, but could have easily eaten them as a main course!

We were then presented with an appetizer featuring another trendy ingredient on restaurant menus, Brussels Sprouts — which were prepared in the most sinful way — fried, covered in crispy bacon, parmesan, and tossed in a mustard maple glaze. If you didn’t like Brussels Sprouts before, trust me, you will after eating these.

And the final appetizer we sampled was the most decadent of them all — Short Rib Fries! Tender braised short ribs served on top of French fries covered in a creamy jalapeno cheddar sauce with peppers & onions. Yes, they were as rich as they sound and look and worth every last calorie!! 👌💯

By this point, I was already bursting at the seams, but we still had entrees coming! The first of which was an excellent Chorizo Burger topped with a generously thick slice of mozzarella, smooth avocado salsa, and pickled jalapenos served on a Le Bus Bakery brioche bun. Listen, there’s a ton of great burgers in the city, but if you’re a burger connoisseur, this beauty should be considered for your consumption immediately. 🍔

Next up — Shrimp & Grits with Mascarpone cheese (in the grits), charred kale and Brussels sprouts, and avocado salsa. For many years, I just didn’t get the fuss over grits. I always considered it corn meal mush. But my eyes have been opened in the past year as I have been exposed to some delectably prepared grits and feel completely different about them. I’m also NOT crazy about shrimp at all. In fact, it’s one of my least favorite seafoods. I know, crazy, right? I’m pleased to say after eating this I’m “Team Shrimp & Grits” all the way now! 🍤🌽

Lastly, our final entree was delivered and it is a dish you don’t see on many menus. Simply because it’s a time-consuming thing to make. But that doesn’t stop Miles Table from making their own version of Spanish Paella with the requisite chicken, chorizo, shrimp, saffron rice, and Pasilla sauce. I am not a Paella expert by any stretch, but I found it satisfying. My only complaint is that I would have loved more sauce as I felt the sauce really brought the whole dish together and added depth of flavor. I could have asked, though? So not really a complaint after all. ☺

Miles Table had been on my radar for a while. I’m so glad that I finally had an opportunity to check it out with some foodie friends. This quaint eatery should be on YOUR radar, too. In addition to the above, the menu also features pizzas, grilled cheeses, salads, and sandwiches. You won’t have a problem finding something you like.

They also have some baked goods to choose from like house-made brownies and cookies; pound cakes and biscottis by Le Bus Bakery. Simply scrumptious.
