Wednesday Movie Nights at Le Virtù

In keeping with their mission of keeping Italian culture alive in South Philadelphia, Le Virtù will host weekly Wednesday Movie Nights outdoors in Il Campo. Every week, the restaurant will screen a different film, with sound, and will feature special cocktails, wines, and dishes inspired by the region or theme of the film.

Rain dates for movie nights will be the following day; the week of 6/15, the movie screening will take place on Thursday, June 16 so as not to overlap with a special Tour of Abruzzo dinner event.

Movies will include:

  • Wed, 6/1: Oro di Napoli starring Sophia Loren, featuring Neapolitan specials

  • Wed, 6/8: Amarcord by Federico Fellini, a love letter to his hometown of Rimini, featuring Romagnolo specials

  • Thu 6/16: Cinema Paradiso with Sicilian specials to complement the story of a young boy and an aged movie projectionist in war-torn Sicily

  • Wed 6/22: Vangelo Secondo Matteo by Pier Paolo Pasolini, set in UNESCO World Heritage Site Matera, Basilicata, featuring cucina poverafrom the region

  • Wed 6/29: Big Night by Stanley Tucci and Campbell Scott, featuring dishes such as timpano, served by the film’s protagonists in 1950s New Jersey as they struggle to operate a successful, authentic Italian restaurant

  • Wed 7/6: Mamma Roma by Pier Paolo Pasolini, starring Anna Magnani and featuring Roman specials to kick off July’s month-long celebration of the Italian capital

  • Wed 7/13: Caro Diario, a playful three-chapter story of life from writer/director Nanni Moretti

  • Wed 7/20: Le Notte di Cabiria by Federico Fellini, who directed his wife in this portrait of a kind-hearted Roman prostitute’s search for love

  • Wed 7/27: I Ladri di Biciclette, the classic post-war tale of a working man’s stolen bicycle and his search, with his son, to find it
